About Us
Our Mission For Change
Here at Annual Market Farm, we are driven to do our part in making the world a better place. Our goal
is to ensure that no one in Oregon goes without healthy food, ever again. We will accomplish this with sustainable and responsible farming methods. Our simple and far reaching goal is to feed the hungry. Our secondary goal is to ensure that Oregon can respond effectively to sudden changes that would result in food shortages. The single most effective way to feed the hungry is to grow and manufacture enough food. Preparation for change means creating abundance.
The actual act of ensuring food availability for the masses is not so simple. This requires improvement in farm technology, careful planning and possibly even fundamental changes to our economy. Feeding the hungry sounds great, but it doesn't mean anything if it damages the local food economy. Over producing market crops would put unnecessary stress on local farmers. To avoid that, any serious production effort to feed the hungry should be kept in a separate market. Our plan is to create a farm that provides healthy produce to those who need help. Local food banks and outreach programs are doing a fantastic job. Statistically, they fall short of providing enough for the vast number of people who are suffering from food insecurity. We seek to create food production infrastructure that provides healthy fruits and vegetables to the distribution systems that are already in place. With a small investment, we will start year round food production with a heavy focus on cleanliness, quality and efficiency.
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this be. We are currently developing the capitol needed for starting this farm. This is intended to be the first step towards that lofty goal. Lets do better than those that came before us. We have the technology, the know how, and we live in an amazing world and no human should ever go hungry.

Annual Market Farms LLC. becomes Official!
The first and most critical step in starting a journey such as this is paperwork. Lots and lots of paperwork. We have officially started a business. I am so excited to be part of such an amazing story! Six concerned citizens decide to make a change. Supported by the most wonderful community in Oregon, we will make this the most productive farm ever!
From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of AnnualMarketFarm.org
This started, as many things do, with an idea. The problem is clear. Too many people in Oregon are suffering from food insecurity. The idea; Feed them. Jon Hicks started talking to his friends and neighbors about this crazy idea. They loved it. The obvious question came up several times, "How do we feed them?" The answer was slightly less simple. Canned food drives have helped so many people, but not enough to make a notable difference, statistically. It became clear that programs such as the Oregon Food Bank and others are in need of dedicated food production infrastructure. This is when we started looking at farming as good method to make a more significant difference. The earth, when treated right, can create so much abundance. A well managed market farm can produce 21,000 lbs of food per acre. This can be provided to those who need it, without mark ups. The only cost is in equipment, labor and materials.
With a little help from our wonderful community, Six normal hard-working citizens of Scappoose, Oregon will feed thousands. It all starts here, with one phrase. "Lets do better."
It is a lot of work starting a business. There are some parts that are really fun and exciting. Starting a new business allowed us to change the face of the stuffy business meeting. With beer, a selection of snacks, and a business made up of neighbors and friends, we had the best meeting I have ever been part of.
